Casita Tortuga in Todos Santos is one of three 2 bedroom, 2 story units at CalyCanto.
TODOS SANTOS – "PUEBLO MAGICO"About an hour's drive north of Cabo San Lucas along the Pacific side of the peninsula, you'll come the small town of Todos Santos where life is a lot slower and old Mexico is alive and well. The town dates back to the early 1700's with the founding of the mission Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz by father Jaime Bravo but it still manages to hold onto it's roots and culture.
Where there once were sugar cane fields, now there are organic farms growing avocado, mango, papaya, many varieties of chile and fresh vegetables year-round. Fishing and ranching also play a significant role in the areas economy and culture. Local restaurants take full advantage of the bounty and the beneficiaries are those lucky, or smart travelers that opt to spend enough time to discover all that Todos Santos has to offer.
Todos Santos is also known for it's burgeoning artist's community and has become a permanent roost for dozens of expat painters, sculptures, writers and the like. The variety of artworks created by this aesthetic army keeps the many art galleries along quiet cobbled streets filled. A tour of all the galleries will take the better part of a day and it's well worth it. Another claim to fame is the legendary surfing found here on the Pacific. Several excellent surf breaks are within 15-30 minutes drive with the more well known surf spots like Cerritos and San Pedrito beaches still remaining relatively uncrowded despite their reputations as great surf beaches.
Todos Santos was recently deemed a "Pueblo Magico" by the Mexican Secretary of Tourism for an areas ability to offer visitors a "magical" experience by reason of their natural beauty, cultural riches, or historical relevance. Todos Santos is the first beach town to receive the recogntion. Even if you can only spare one day to rent a car and take the drive up the coast, trust us, it's well worth it. For a little peak into what the trip is like, watch our video... A Day Trip to Todo Santos below.

The East Cape region of Los Cabos is a fishermen's paradise and the excellent fishing is the focus of most resorts. Here anglers await their boats on the dock at Hotel Palmas de Cortez.
THE EAST CAPE REGION OF BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, BAJA, MEXICO Located about an hour and a half's drive north of Cabo San Lucas, the East Cape is much different than either San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas... it could probably be called the anti-Cabo to those that prefer a much quieter, shady spot under a palm tree slow getaway. It's pretty sleepy here, but it sure feels good. Fishing is the primary reason folks come here so it makes perfect sense the largest fleet of sport fishing boats in all of Mexico calls this area home. East Cape, including the towns of Los Barriles, Pescadero and La Ribera, is so famous for their affordable fishing vacations that some would think that's all there is to do. But that's not the case. Sure, you can take part in the usual resort activities like kayaking (and kayak fishing), snorkeling, jet ski's, ATV rides... but here you're also close to some remarkable finds in the interior of Baja Sur.
Any of the hotels and resorts in this slow paced community can hook you up with tours to hot springs and waterfalls, ranches, even cave painting sites, just be prepared for a grueling desert hike to get to the really special places.
The Sierra Laguna Biosphere, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a short drive away and hikes into the hot springs and waterfalls is fairly easy save for some loose ground on a precarious slope just short of your destination. La Trinidad is just right for the bone collector in the family as it's fairly common to find fossilized conch shells, shark's teeth and others dating back nearly 10 million years. Local wildlife experts also lead ATV bird watching tours and from December into early April, whale watching tours to Magdalena Bay. Needless to say, although the East Cape doesn't offer all the glitz of Cabo, it still has lots to offer the non-fishermen in any family. But don't hold your breath... this area is going to change pretty quickly with the beginnings of a new, and huge, resort community development called Cabo Riviera.
