BUNGALOWS CABO SAN LUCAS REVIEW
AN OASIS OF TRANQUILITY
Cabo San Lucas has earned a reputation as one of the most beautiful
vacation destinations in the Western hemisphere. But it’s
also earned a reputation for large resorts, loud clubs and ever
increasing hustle and bustle. Some folks come away saying “it’s
too spring break like” or what happened to the sleepy, peaceful
little town by the beach?” Well, it’s still here at
the Bungalows Breakfast Inn.
Age-old wisdom reveals one of the keys to happiness … stop and smell the roses once in a while. At the Bungalows
Hotel in Cabo San Lucas you can definitely stop and smell the bougainvillea
or a host of other fragrant flowers that blanket this tranquil little
oasis by the sea. While the word “hotel” is used in
the name, the Bungalows is really a bed and breakfast with the emphasis
on breakfast. In fact, read travelers reviews on websites like TripAdvisor.com,
Yahoo travel or IgoUgo.com and you’ll usually find that the
breakfasts at the Bungalows is the first and most mentioned item.
One thing seems to overtake the most important meal of the day though…
the level of service, hospitality and genuine warmth of Estela,
the manager, and her son Eric who lives on-site and takes great
pride in taking care of and attending to the needs of guests.

I’ve stayed at the Bungalows and can’t say enough good
things about this place. It’s small and peaceful but close
to town. It feels like old Mexico, especially the "Cabo"
travelers remember from the 70’s and 80’s but having
the modern conveniences that progress and growth brings with it.
The staff is tremendously attentive and available and they always
go the extra mile to make you feel like an honored guest, or more
accurately, a member of the family. I’m not the only one who
is more than impressed with the Bungalows either. “Bungalows
can’t be beat”… “Could it be any better?…
“Perfect honeymoon”… “Loved it, Loved it,
Loved it”… “Wonderful place, wonderful people”¬
and the list goes on and on. All of those quotes came from TripAdvisor.com
and there are about 150 of them, more than any single resort, hotel,
or bed and breakfast in Los Cabos. Word of mouth has always been
the best advertising and with the volume of rave reviews that they
receive, paid advertising just seems to be a waste of money.

Owners Mark and Tisha Hendricks hail from California. Manager Estela
and her son Eric run the show. Estela is a luminous character that
lights up the room with her energy and ‘joie de vivre.”
A lifelong traveler herself, Estela has a love of travel and adventure
that is infectious. She regales guests with stories of her travels,
some with a tinge of mystery, danger and intrigue such as being
lost in a large European city and finding her way with the help
of a few local working girls. Such is nature of her adventurous
character and willingness to accept just about anyone. Simply put,
Estela loves people and loves to take care of them.
If there is such a thing as a hospitality gene, Estela has passed
it on to her son, Eric. Young, full of life and as wonderful to
be around as his mother, Eric lives in one of the rooms at the Bungalows
and is always greeting guests, conducting impromptu orientations
to the hotel’s amenities and overseeing the staff and daily
operations. You can’t fake real passion and Eric’s passion
seems to be creating the perfect stay for every traveler that ventures
his way. Need advice on where to go, where to eat, what to see?
Eric’s your man. From sharing little secrets like where to
find the best tacos or tortas in town (Gordolele’s in downtown
Cabo) or who to see for a fishing charter, Eric knows it all. Ask
him how he came to be in Cabo and he’ll tell you a tale of
how he had come to visit his mother, and upon returning to his father’s
home, he wanted nothing more than to return to Land’s End
and the Bungalows. Long story made short, one day Eric’s father
sent him to the store for a pack of cigarettes… he’s
still waiting for them!

Rooms at the Bungalows are spacious with amenities like a television,
VCR (with a large library of free movies available in the office),
and a small kitchenette with refrigerator and even a French press
for that all-important first cup of coffee. In addition to the standard
rooms, the Bungalows offers the Cozy Suite, Honeymoon Suite and
two bedroom bungalows for families and groups. If you’re looking
for silk sheets and mink blankets, this isn’t the place for
you. If you’re looking for outstanding value, excellent service
and a little piece of what real Mexico is all about, this is definitely
the place for you.

Outside your room you’ll find a saltwater pool perfect for
cooling off. The salinity is not that of ocean water, it is very
light, easy on the eyes and skin, and keeps the nasty smell of chlorine
and ‘green’ hair away. Saline pools also reduce the
need for chemicals, which is good for you and the environment. Adjacent
to the pool is the breakfast area. Covered with the traditional
‘palapa’ roof and encased with bougainvillea, the breakfast
area is cool and inviting. Fresh brewed coffee is served up in large
ceramic cups and the aroma of what’s being cooked up in the
kitchen wafts through the air. The Bungalows is famous for their
breakfasts. Ranging from marvelous Belgian waffles with fresh fruit
and whipped cream, omelets with Mexican cheese, sausage and mushrooms,
and traditional Mexican style dishes, wondering what the next morning’s
breakfast will be seems to be popular table conversation while enjoying
the current day’s selection. All the while, Estela is afoot
greeting guests with the same wonderful smile she sports all day
and night.

Another special touch at the Bungalows is a free massage on the
rooftop terrace as part of your package. Tisha Hendricks, owner,
also has a flair for making special moments or occasions even more
so. One guest made mention that his wife loves margaritas…
Tisha arranged to have ice-cold margaritas waiting for them upon
their arrival. Sounds easy, right? Not if you consider the fact
that there is no bar on the premises. Tisha went the extra mile
and arranged for them to be brought to the hotel just in time for
the guests’ arrival. Another guest informed her that they
would be arriving on her husband’s birthday… they arrived
to find their room decorated with balloons and streamers. It’s
the little things that make the greatest impact and with all the
little things the Bungalows does so well, the impact is like a ton
of bricks, gold bricks to more accurate.
With a huge concern for their guests’ enjoyment the small
and tranquil Bungalows Hotel Breakfast Inn in Cabo San Lucas delivers
big surprises with a small price tag. Take my word for it, along
with the hundreds of other guests who take the time to share their
experiences with other travel lovers and make the Bungalows your
first choice the next time you visit the paradise that lays at Land’s
End. Just do me a favor, tell Estela and Eric to keep a room open
for us!
