Cabo Cantina Restaurant and Sports Bar, Downtown Cabo San Lucas

A few minutes drive from busy downtown Cabo San Lucas lies the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort & Spa – one of four distinctive destination resorts from the Pueblo Bonito group in Los Cabos. Of the four, Sunset Beach stands out as perhaps the best of the bunch for family vacations. Why? Well, first you'd have to give it a tip of the hat for its amazing location on the Pacific side of the Cape. Cool ocean breezes bring milder temperatures even in the peak of summer. It's common to have temps 15 or more degrees cooler here than on the Sea of Cortez side. When you're talking about mid 80's versus 105+, the difference is very much appreciated. Second, the resort's determination to find a way to engage everyone in the family – from the very young to the very old – by providing amenities and activities meant to fill each day with happy, smiling faces.

Pueblo Bonito's Sunset Beach Resort rests on 50 acres of pristine and private Pacific coastline.

Sunset Beach is laid out differently than any other resort we've stayed at in Los Cabos. It's huge but not cramped and crowded. Instead of one massive building that houses everything from lobby to rooms to restaurants, Sunset Beach is spread out over 50 acres that slope to the sea. Tiered levels with smaller, more private buildings dot the landscape. You might think that being so spread out means you have to hoof it long distances to get around the property. Sure, you can and it's worth it... but if you'd rather not, the resort provides customized golf carts that transport guests wherever they wish to go.

Smaller buildings spread out across the property translates into a more intimate and private feeling than other mega-resorts in Cabo. While you can venture to the larger pools found at the resort, many smaller pools are found just a few steps from your room - a very unique concept that we really enjoyed.

After a quick and efficient check-in you're transported to your room, bags are brought in and a tour of the room features is given by a very polite and energetic staff member. After settling in, a quick call from your room is all it takes to have a cart and driver dispatched to your doorstep.

Custom golf carts take resort guests to their rooms and around the property at Sunset Beach Resort, Cabo San Lucas
While the resort is spread out over often steep slopes, getting around is easy (fun, too!) – by virtue of custom designed golf carts that whisk guests throughout the grounds. We found walking a great way to get a bit of exercise while exploring the landscape.

Rooms at Sunset Beach range from Junior Suites with 435 square feet of living space to Executive Suites with 965 square feet of living space. Both options come with marble baths, cedar woodwork, comfy feather-top beds, fully equipped kitchenettes and balconies with outdoor seating.

The Executive Suites at Sunset Beach in Los Cabos are spacious and luxurious.
At most family-friendly resorts in Cabo the rooms are usually dressed down. But at PB Sunset Beach the suites are very luxurious and afford guests unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.

In-room satellite TV with premium channels, direct dial phones, A/C and purified water are standard. High speed internet access is free via wireless hotspot in the Manila Bar and Sunrise Cafe while a fee for property-wide access (including in-room) does apply. While both room options afford similar amenities the Executive Suites afford more space and private bedrooms. Single king or dual queen beds are available as are non-smoking rooms in either.

Swim-up beverage bars at Sunset Beach's many pools are a great place to hang out with family and friends.
The swimming pools at Sunset Beach are a great place to relax with family. Swim-up bars and poolside food and beverage service makes it tough to leave!

The Kids Club is available for children ages 4-11, Tuesday-Sunday, from 10am to 5pm.
